Aligning Our Desires with God’s Heart

Psalm 37:4 is such a beautiful promise: “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

But what does it truly mean to take delight in the Lord?

It’s more than simply presenting Him with our wish list and hoping He’ll check things off for us. It’s about building a relationship so deep that our hearts begin to reflect His heart.

When we lean into God—spending time in His Word, seeking His presence, and trusting His character—our desires start to change.

What we once thought we wanted may fade, and new dreams might blossom in our hearts. It’s as if, little by little, our will becomes aligned with His, and in that alignment, He gives us those desires because they now match His own.

Trusting God with our desires is an act of surrender. It’s letting go of our need to control and saying, “Lord, I believe Your plans are better than mine.”

He sees the bigger picture, the desires we don’t even know we have yet.

So today, let’s take delight in the Lord. Let’s find our joy and fulfillment in Him, resting in the knowledge that as we grow closer, He will shape and fulfill our hearts’ desires in ways that are far greater than we could have ever imagined.
